Health Benefit and Side Effects of Camphor
Camphor, scientifically known as Cinnamomum Camphor, is a combustible, translucent white solid which has a piquant smell and sour taste, though some people quite like its menthol-like, nose tingling fragrance. Camphor benefits is obtained from the bark of the tree Cinnamonun camphora. Only 50-years old trees produce a waxy substance which is used as camphor oil.
The process of steam distillation is used to extract camphor oil benefits from the stems of the tree. The camphor tree is said to be a native of Hiroshima, Japan. It is evergreen and now grows all over Asia, primarily in Indonesia. The Indonesian variety is named Dryobalanops camphora. Camphor can be used in multiple ways. Making Camphor Oil from Camphor Crystals
Grind the crystallized camphor block or crystals into powder, using a mortar and pestle.
Heat two cups of coconut oil in the saucepan on medium heat, stirring occasionally so it doesn’t burn.
Add 2 tablespoons of ground camphor crystals to the heated oil. Stir the powdered crystals into the coconut oil until completely dissolved.

Pure and clean Ajowan – 2Kg
Cedar wood – 1 Kg
Coconut Oil – 1 Kg
Camphor -200 gm
The preparation given here is based on traditional Ayurveda method. This oil will be pale green in color apart from the camphor oil available in the market which is transparent. Above mentioned Ajowan and cedar wood should be smashed and mixed with 10 liters of water to prepare decoction/kwath and it should be reduced to 2 liters by heating.
Next the 2 liter decoction should be mixed with 1 kg of coconut oil and it should be heated until all the water content is evaporated. Now filter the content and pour into a dry vessel with 200 gm of powdered camphor benefits. Stir it continuously until the camphor dissolves into the oil. Let it cool down and then transfer it into a dry glass bottle.
